Road Closures and Conditions
The Old South Road (Maryvale Road and Ghan Heritage Road) adjacent to the race track is generally unsealed, dry and dusty, rough and corrugated from high numbers of traffic leading up to and during Race Weekend.
Road Closures will be in place between Deep Well and Finke 6am-6pm, on the Sunday and Monday of the race weekend.
During the car section this year, no public vehicle access will be permitted along Maryvale Rd or Ghan Heritage Rd beyond the bitumen.
Exceptions only for:
• Official Finke vehicles
• Emergency Services
• Licensed crew retrieving vehicles/competitors
All passengers in retrieval vehicles must be licensed crew — otherwise access will be denied at roadblocks.
Travel tip: We strongly encourage spectators heading to Finke to travel via the Stuart Highway to Kulgera, then take Finke Road to Aputula.
Road closures & delays:
Traffic management will be in place at:
• Deep Well checkpoint crossover
• Hugh Stock Route (Maryvale grid)
• 81–85km marks (approx.)
• Rodinga checkpoint crossover
• Finke River
Expect lengthy delays, with access for non-competitors limited to small windows on both race days.
👉 Plan ahead, arrive early, and stay in place — once roads close, movement will be restricted.
