Once again the club has appointed Judi Hoare to the position of volunteer coordinator for the 2017 event.
Judi has a wealth of knowledge and experience with Finke gained over 30 years as a previous club employee and current volunteer – Judi runs the Deep Well Checkpoint with a team of volunteers and in addition is one of just four life members of the Finke Desert Race club.
As last year the club will nominate team leaders for the various areas of volunteering and Judi will liaise directly with and support them.
Once the Team Leaders have been appointed for 2017 we will work with them to invite volunteers from last year to fill the same role again this year. Once this process is complete, we anticipate that we will open the online expressions of interest page to volunteers in March.
Expressions of interest will see people apply for advertised roles in categories where volunteers are needed and Judi will then assign them to a team leader who will make contact with them. The team leader will be responsible for allocating their work roster.
Judi’s role will be to act as overall coordinator working with appointed team leaders and providing a link back to the committee. She will also support the admin officer Giselle Greenfield with volunteer enquiries.
It is anticipated that there will be in excess of 300 volunteers at this year’s event and we welcome people opting to help in multiple roles both before and across the race weekend.
